- Assistant Professor Clinical Practice, Pathology Faculty
Description
The successful candidate will provide a broad range of Clinical Chemistry services, with responsibilities that include serving as the Associate Director of Clinical Chemistry. In this role, the faculty member will partner with the Director of Clinical Chemistry in providing expert oversight of the diagnostic clinical chemistry laboratories across all UTMB facilities, ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of tests. This will include evaluation, introduction and validation of new tests, instrumentation, testing platforms and methodologies. Review and approval of laboratory procedures and participation in continuous quality assurance and performance improvement is a core expectation of this position. The faculty member will also serve as consultant to pathologists, physicians and other providers, offering guidance in the selection and interpretation of chemistry tests, with clinical correlation as appropriate. In addition to clinical service, the faculty member will be expected to advance the field of clinical chemistry through scholarly and research activities. This may include basic science research, translational studies, or applied clinical chemistry research, with the expectation of disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and contributions to the broader academic community. The faculty member will participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students and take an active role in the education and mentorship of residents and fellows. Engagement in intra- and inter-departmental conferences is expected. The faculty member will pursue ongoing scholarly activities through research, publications, and presentations at both national and international meetings, thereby enhancing the academic reputation of the institution and contributing to the advancement of clinical chemistry as a discipline.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD, MD or MD/PhD Fellowship-trained and board-eligible or board-certified in Clinical Chemistry or equivalent experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional qualifications in Clinical Informatics and/or experience in Laboratory Automation, and mass spectrometry are preferred
