FULL-TIME POSITION: Pediatric and Perinatal Pathologist
The Department of Laboratory Medicine of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) invites applications for a full time (1.0 FTE) Pediatric & Perinatal Anatomical Pathologist at CHEO which is a site of the Eastern Ontario Laboratory Association Reference Laboratory (EORLA). The successful applicant will be a member of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at CHEO and a member of EORLA. This position will be vacant as of January 19, 2026. The candidate will be expected to provide paediatric anatomical pathology, perinatal including placental pathology, autopsy and on call services to the CHEO. Pediatric neuropathology knowledge/expertise would be considered an asset. CHEO is a regional reference centre for placental pathology.
In addition to the clinical expertise, applicants must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact and work collaboratively with individuals within and outside of CHEO and EORLA.
CHEO is a tertiary care pediatric center for the Eastern Ontario Region. It is the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in Eastern Ontario offering NICU and PICU level care and has a full range of pediatric and surgical subspecialists. The successful candidate will join a team of three pediatric pathologists and a part time neuropathologist. The Division has a close and dynamic interactions with the other Divisions within the Department of Laboratory Medicine such as: Clinical Biochemistry, Hematopathology and Microbiology. CHEO has a growing Clinical Genomics/Precision Diagnostics clinical and laboratory services.
CHEO is seeking a candidate who will foster excellence in all pediatric and perinatal pathology practice. The applicant would also be expected to contribute to the clinical, scholarly and educational activities and department’s undergraduate, graduate and residency training programs. The University of Ottawa and CHEO Research Institute provide ample opportunities for collaborative and autonomous research.
The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the uniform minimal level of compensation (UMLC) for laboratory physicians in the province of Ontario. Estimated UMLC for 2025-26 is $404,300 inclusive of benefits.
Candidate must have an MD and Fellowship in Anatomical Pathology/Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the equivalent.
Pediatric Pathology Fellowship training or equivalent experience is required.
